Cletus Noah, president of the Catholic Men Organization (CMO), has died, family and community sources reported. Noah, a longstanding figure in both the Catholic community and Liberian politics, died on May 3. According to family sources, he passed away late Saturday evening at St. Joseph’s Catholic Hospital in Monrovia.
The CMO and members of Our Lady of Lebanon Catholic Church, St. Joseph Parish, expressed deep sorrow at his passing, describing his death as a heavy loss for the church and wider community. Noah was also active in national service and politics, serving as Chief of Staff during Samuel Tweah’s tenure at the Ministry of Finance and as a member of the inner circle of the Weah administration.
News of Noah’s death prompted an outpouring of tributes across Liberia’s political spectrum. Jefferson Koijee, Secretary General of the opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) and former Monrovia mayor, posted on social media: “Oh death, an unfiltered reality. I am shackled by grief and disbelief. Cletus, until we meet again, rest well.”
Aloysius Howe, a former special aide to Tweah who worked closely with Noah, recalled their last conversations with sorrow. “You motivated and encouraged me, told me to be strong and never give up,” Howe said, adding that they had planned to speak regularly. “Didn’t know it was our last interaction.”
Tributes also came from within the ruling ranks. A member of the Unity Party described the news as “shocking” on Facebook, while Unity Party executive Pawala Janyan remembered Noah as more than a colleague: “We didn’t share blood, but you were a big brother to me in every sense. You lived a life that touched many.”
Noah’s cause of death has not been officially disclosed, and funeral arrangements are pending, family sources said. His sudden passing has been widely mourned as a significant loss by those who knew him for his loyalty, mentorship and personal warmth.
